How It All Started

Welcome to my site. I've been keeping bees now for the past seven years and I'm sure, like me your bees have swarmed, not just once but several times. When they do swarm they can end up in the most unlikely of places and sometimes just out of reach. I've found that it's not always possible to drop the swarm in to a box or a skep. If they've landed in a public place, with the potential risk to people it would be so much easier to collect the bees safely, efficiently and quickly as possible. As responsible beekeepers we care about our bees and we also don't want them to cause the public any concern. For some time I've been looking for an alternative way to collect swarms, mainly from difficult to access places. I first saw one in use when one of my mentor's swarms was collected using a beevac. The bee vac was very efficient, but needed a mains power supply. I could see the potential, but it needed to be portable. After months of research and development, financial outlay and driving my wife mad, I've constructed a portable battery powered beevac.

The unit is self contained, with an 18v vacuum cleaner motor, a speed controller and an adaptor to take a power tool battery pack. The unit is offered bare, no batteries or charger, with the customer using their own batteries. We can offer battery adaptors to suit the following makes of power tools.

Bosch proffesional.

DeWalt XR.

Erbauer EXT.

Makita.

Milwaukee.

Other makes may be available at an additional cost. Unfortunately we can't offer Ryobi adaptors.

The collection hose is stored in the lower part of the bucket.

I'm sure that there are many beekeepers that would frown at using such a device to collect bees. "It's wrong, the bees will be stressed, you'll kill the queen". I can understand their concerns, but every swarm that I've collected has been re-homed, with no loss of the queen and they've expanded in to a full size colony.

I believe this beevac unit can be a valuable tool for any beekeeper or purchased by an association for the use of their members.
